Dibrugarh Jailor Arrested: Superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail, Assam, Nipen Das has been arrested on Friday (08 March). The jailer has been accused of helping Amritpal Singh and his associates belonging to the radical organization Waris Punjab De. A few days ago, electronic devices including smartphones, spycams were recovered from these cowries.
According to news agency PTI, the official said that the jail officer was arrested in the early hours on charges of “laxity” and is currently in Dibrugarh Sadar police station. Last month, several electronic devices were recovered from the cells of Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail, where prisoners arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) are kept.
SIM card, phone and TV remote also recovered
The officer said that the Dibrugarh jail officer has been arrested in this case. Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh had said that upon searching the jail premises, various electronic items like a smartphone with SIM card, a normal phone, a TV remote with keyboard, a spycam pen, pen drive, Bluetooth headphones and speakers were recovered. The equipment was recovered.
He had said through a post on social media platform ‘X’ that after receiving information about unauthorized activities, additional CCTV cameras have been installed in the public area of Rasuka Block. He had said that additional legal action and precautionary measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in future.
Amritpal Singh is also lodged in this jail
Pro-Khalistan organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ (WPD) chief Amritpal and 10 of its members are lodged in Dibrugarh jail. During the action against this radical group, these people were arrested from different parts of Punjab under Rasuka and they are lodged in this jail since last year.
After the radical group members from Punjab were brought to Dibrugarh jail, multi-layered security arrangements were made in the jail, under which additional CCTV cameras were installed in the jail and faulty cameras were repaired or replaced. Dibrugarh Jail, one of the oldest and high security prisons in North-East India, was built during the British rule in 1859-60.
